William's 1st 10K
My faithful running shoes out and ready to go at 5:30 this morning. We had a very early wake up call to get to the race on time. We had to be there at 6:20 to get our numbers, our shirts and to warm up...the race started at 7:00.
I snapped this picture right before we started running. William is putting his earphones in and he was ready to go.
I love this picture...we had just taken a quick walk to warm up and he looked so happy. I just love his enthusiasm!
Our running gear, minus my phone that I use. We have an ipod, my garmin forerunner (to track my pace), bluetooth headset and ear phones. We were ready.
First time I have ever fallen when I have run. Literally when I was at 5.5 miles I took a tumble on an uneven sidewalk. My knee looks bad and I bruised my thumb (of all places)...I am assuming I bruised it from trying to catch my fall.
This is us after the race...goodness, I am sweaty. And it was a cloudy day. I guess I am allowed to be so sweaty after running 6.2 miles. The best part is that William came in 3rd for his division ( 20 years and younger)!!!!! Can you believe it? He totally amazed me. I couldn't be prouder!!!!
My dad and his wife were in town the other day...and my cousin who lives 3 hours away came to have dinner with us. What a joyous day it was. Here is the first family selfie with my extended family. Good memories!
It seems that I have been going to births for most of my adult life. The first birth I ever was at was for my niece Brianna, and that was 22 years ago. I was 18 years old and it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Little did I know at that tender age that I would be attending births as a job...as a careeer.
There are so many moments that you experience as a doula. There are so many highs and lows. And there are so many hours that you are there. Many moments of laughter, maybe tears, tense decisions and talking. The first moment that I always think of is when you get that first phone call. It seems like they are always in the middle of the night. The jolt from bed you get when you hear your phone ring. It startles me. You are expecting the call any day, but somehow you didn't think it would be that night. And then the adrenaline rush comes in. Usually my doula bag is packed, a shower is a must (never too sure when you will get another one), and I usually talk wi…
This girl has been caught taking selfies on our cameras. We don't realize she has taken them until we look at our phones. She is so cute...and so preteen. As we are winding down the teen years with Bryn...we are in the homestretch, we see several more beckoning. Caleb will be 13 in one month and Esther is 11...and she is just bursting to be a teenager. She still has that softness of a little girl, but we keep on seeing glimmers in her life that are totally "TEEN." The entrance of selfies is a prime example. Love it. She has always been our quiet, keep to yourself girl...but all of a sudden she is becoming a social butterfly. Lots of friends...texting them on her tablet ( you should have seen my face when she sent me her first text)...small temper tantrums. It's in the mix..and Matt and I feel a little more prepared this time. We have some experience...we know what to expect...what to pay attention to and what to just ignore. By time we are done with this load of kid…
