Skate Night

Last night we went rollerskating at our local rink. It was $2 Tuesdays, so it was the perfect opportunity to head out and skate with the kids. The last time we went (last June) Esther broke her wrist, so she wasn't too keen to go out again. But memories (and pain) do fade away and she was willing to give it an another try.
Now when I was little, skating was the "in" thing to do. Everyone skated all the time, you had your parties there...come on you mid-thirty readers...you remember. Everyone skated...it was hip. Out there skating with feathers in your hair and leg warmers over your jeans. Wow, small flashback to the eighties. I loved to skate and learned when I was five.
Fast forward thirty years, and skating isn't as popular. So, my kids really don't know how to skate. Including my teenager. We have gone off and on over the years, but not enough to put in some serious practice. My best skaters last night were probably Judah and William...totally fearless. Willing to fall and make fools of themselves. They probably went around the rink 50 times. They just had some good old fashioned fun.
And for me, it's fun to hang out and watch my kids skate...enjoy themselves and stay active. And for a few dollars, it was worth once again to make some memories with my kids :)

I want to do this! You are so right..once upon a time it was the "thing to do"! Maybe I can convince my brood to do this some Tuesday.

2020...What does that look like to you? I am ready to BLOOM!

As I sit here at my desk, we have already gone through the first few days of 2020. I keep shaking my head when I think that we are already 20 years into this century. Doesn't it feel like moments ago we were talking about Y2K? So much has happened since then. Matthew and I were talking just this morning that I will turn 45 this year, and how half of my 40s will be over and how fast they have gone. And how difficult they have been. But I have hope. Warning: Do you think your child may be Dyslexic?

Three years ago today our world changed so much here at the Reynolds Nation. On that day we found out officially by the psychologist that Judah was dyslexic. I had been concerned for about 9 months that he was...I had heard on Good Morning one day what are some of the signs of dyslexia. Though I always watched my kids for dyslexia, Judah just didn't have the classic signs... like the turning of the letters B, D and P.  Everyone always looks for that, but Judah didn't do that. But he was behind in his reading. And wasn't progressing in a rate that was okay. So, we had him tested. And it was confirmed.
